Red Cross seeks donations for veterans' gift baskets

READING, Pa. -

The Red Cross is doing its part to help veterans this holiday season.

The agency is collecting food and other items to put into holiday gift baskets.

The Red Cross partners with several companies and organizations to put everything together. Even though times are tough, organizers said more people are lending a helping hand.

"We've actually been seeing a lot of other places wanting to give and wanting to collect, so we have different schools throughout the county, the VFWs, as well as other places collecting on behalf of us," said Kara Mowbray, director of emergency services.

If you'd like to donate, just drop off any non-perishable items at the Red Cross on Centre Avenue in Reading now through December 5.

Any veterans in Berks County who would like a holiday basket can also contact the Red Cross.
