Fire destroys Towamensing home

TOWAMENSING, Pa. -

Fire officials are taking up a collection for two men who lived in a home destroyed by fire.

The fire broke out Tuesday afternoon at 4780 Forest St. in Towamensing Twp., Carbon Co. No one was injured, officials said.

The fire started in a camper that was parked next to the home and spread up the side of the house and across the roof, said fire officials, who noted that both the camper and the house were destroyed.

Investigators have not determined what sparked the fire.

The Red Cross provided meals, clothing and toiletry items to the displaced residents.

Their insurance company set them up with another place to stay, officials said.

Firefighters are collecting a variety of items for the two people who were displaced by the fire.

Items needed include shirts, sizes large and X-large; pants with 39 inch waist and a 42 inch waist, and shoes size 9.5.

You can drop off donations at the fire department at 105 Firehouse Road in Palmerton between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
