Traffic accident reveals more
A traffic accident that happened in November involving a police officer has revealed additional charges against the driver.
On Nov. 30 Ch 69 News reported that Officer Joseph David of the Jim Thorpe Borough Police Department was directing traffic around a disabled car in Nesquehoning when he was hit by a car.
The car was driven by Robert Monroe, 51, of Albrightsville. Monroe was taken to Lehighton Hospital to undergo a blood test after telling police he took prescription Percocet earlier in the day.
During a search of Monroe's car, officers found hundreds of pirated copies of movies. These movies were still being shown in theaters at the time of the search. Police documents show these were packaged to be sold.
When officers searched Monroe's home, they found a makeshift recording studio in the basement. Oficers confiscated two computers set up to copy and record movies.
Officers also found more than 1,000 fraudulent copies of movies.
Police said Monroe admitted that all of the items confiscated from the car and residence belonged to him. He told police that he manufactured and sold the movies for household use.
Monroe faces trademark counterfeiting, unauthorized copying recording devices and other charges.
His preliminary hearing is set for Wednesday.
Monroe is also scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 22 on charges relating to the traffic accident.
