State police said a two-vehicle crash early Monday morning sent the two drivers to the hospital.

The accident happened around 5:30 a.m. on Route 901 east of Deep Creek Road in Barry Twp., Schuylkill County.

Police said a pickup driven by William R. Wagner, 37, of Hegins, traveled off the right side of eastbound Route 901. While attempting to get back into the right lane, Wagner lost control and traveled into the westbound lane, police said.

An SUV driven by Joseph T. Maley, 56, of Pottsville, was traveling west on Route 901 and hit the passenger side of Wagner's pickup.

Both vehicles came to rest off the road on the southern shoulder.

Wagner was airlifted to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville with major injuries.

Maley was taken by ambulance to Schuylkill Medical Center South with moderate injuries.
