A woman was found shot in Monroe County, and police are looking for answers.

State Police responded to a report of a shooting around 1:20 p.m. Thursday and found 50-year-old Bernadette O'Reilly, inside her home at 251 Whisperwood Road in Chestnuthill Twp. with a gunshot wound to her abdomen.

She was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Fountain Hill.

Police are investigating this as an assault/attempted homicide, according to a news release.
