MT. POCONO, Pa. -

A boy was hit by an SUV on Wednesday in Monroe County.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said the 10-year-old was riding a bike eastbound on the shoulder of Route 940 around 1:10 p.m. near Lowe's in Mount Pocono, when he abruptly swerved into the path on an oncoming SUV.

The SUV was unable to avoid hitting the boy. He was not wearing a helmet and was ejected from his bike, police said.

The driver of the SUV -- 47-year-old Razvan Illiescum of Sharon, Mass. -- was not hurt, nor were his passengers.

The Albrightsville boy was treated by passersby until an ambulance arrived. He was taken to Scranton Community Medical Center.

There's no word on his condition.
