A criminal mischief complaint about a Monroe County couple turned into more serious charges after a search warrant was executed, police said.
Police investigated a report of criminal mischief Friday night at 1054 Interchange Road in Polk Twp.
During the investigation, the officer talked with eyewitnesses, and reviewed video surveillance footage, and talked with two suspects-- 22-year-old Matthew John Kozero and 19-year-old Shannon Nichole Bernek, both of the Interchange Road address.
During an interview with police, Kozero told them he was selling illegal narcotics from the house-- not only marijuana but stronger drugs.
After obtaining a search warrant, officers executed a search warrant with multiple units because past incidents involving Kozero included a firearm, plus in the house resided six dogs, a baby and 8 adults.
Police found numerous items of drug paraphernalia as well as items to manufacture and distribute narcotics, plus weapons, suspected marijuana seeds and 10 unused packets of suspected heroin.
Both Kozero and Bernek were taken into custody Friday and charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. More charges are expected to follow.
They're both housed at the Monroe County Courthouse.
