Courtney Hengen, 22, killed in crash on Route 183 in Wayne
4 other people, including infant, injured in 2-vehicle accident
A young woman has died of the injuries she suffered in an accident that closed a stretch of Route 183 in Schuylkill County on Friday, officials said.
The two-vehicle accident happened around 9:47 a.m. at Route 183 and Plum Creek Road in Wayne Township.
The driver of a car heading north on 183 veered out of control and into the oncoming lane of traffic, where it was struck by a southbound pickup truck, state police said.
A passenger in the car, Courtney Hengen, 22, of Auburn, was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown, where she later died, police said.
The driver of the pickup truck, Tina Walker, 54, of Fredericksburg, also suffered serious injuries and was flown to Reading Hospital, police said.
A passenger in the pickup truck suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Reading Hospital.
The driver of the car, Eric Mitchell, 19, of Auburn, and an infant passenger were taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance for treatment of minor injuries.
Route 183 was closed between Routes 443 and 895 while police investigated the accident and crews cleared away the wreckage.
