A ski resort in Carbon County is banking that you'll come back during the summer too!
Blue Mountain Ski Area in Palmerton is making plans to build a water park as its latest attraction.
Blue Mountain officials have hired Serfass Construction to build Summit Splash, a 60-acre themed water park.
Barbara Green, president of Blue Mountain, said plans for the park have been in the works since 2009. Initially the park will be 19 acres, but there's room for growth.
Summit Splash will include water slides and a baby pool.
According to Green, the water park will create about 100 full-time and 400 part-time, seasonal jobs.
The idea for a water park materialized when Blue Mountain explored the idea of building a hotel at the resort, Green said, but a feasibility study showed that summer activities were needed to make a hotel successful.
Construction will take more than two years and should be ready for a May 2015 opening date.
