Pocono Dome inching toward finish line
It's almost time to get your game on at the Pocono Dome.
The two-acre sports facility in Hamilton Township, Monroe County, is expected to open next month.
Crews are busy painting and putting down Astroturf which is no easy task considering the field is 99 feet wide and 44 feet across.
Completion of the $12 million, two acre multi-use sports facility at 141 Collectors Cove is targeted to be completed in two phases in early 2013.
"We are installing facilities for speed strength and agility as well as our pitching and batting facility as well as our state of the art fitness center," said Pocono Dome Sports Director Robert Sabola.
While crews are busy putting the finishing touches on the Pocono Dome itself, Pocono Dome officials are trying to put the finishing touches on leagues that should begin in January.
Sabola says there will be leagues for everything from soccer to lacrosse, field hockey, baseball, football and many more.
If you don't have a few friends who want to join, you can make some new ones by flying solo.
"What we are going to try to create some Pocono Dome house teams really to get the community involved and any members of the community that aren't a part of an organization or a team," said Sabola.
Sabola says the Dome will be completed in early January with the other facilities expected to be completed by the end of March.
Sabola says anyone interested in signing up can do so by checking out the Pocono Dome web site.
