LONG POND, Pa. -

A 30-year-old New Jersey man is in custody after police said he fired a pellet gun from short range in the direction of a man who was in a hot tub at the time.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police responded to 737 Minsi Trail East in Long Pond, Monroe County, for a report of a shooting.

Police found 22-year-old Cody Boyle with a wound in the base of his neck directly over his spine.

Police said Boyle was alert and conscious but complaining of numbness in his right arm. He was taken to Pocono Medical Center, then transferred to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.

The .177 caliber pellet had missed Boyle's spinal cord by about two millimeters, according to police, who added that the pellet was still embedded in Boyle's neck.

Duane McClelland, 30, of Lindenwood, N.J., was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.
