Traffic stop yields $60,000 worth of heroin, police say

POCONO TWP., Pa. -

A routine stop for traffic violations brought much more than a ticket for the driver.

State police at Swiftwater pulled over a car traveling west on Interstate 80 for several traffic violations around 2:45 a.m. Tuesday.

It happend near mile marker 392 in Pocono Twp., Monroe Co.

Police observed several indicators of drug activity and asked to search the vehicle. Permission was granted, police said.

During the search, troopers found 59 bricks of heroin, or nearly 3,000 individual packets.

Police arrested the driver, Frederick Vincent Cobb, 54, and his passenger, Paul Frank Furtick, 39, both of Jersey City, N.J.

They were charged with felony drug possession and sent to Monroe County Jail.

Police said the estimated street value of the heroin is nearly $60,000.
