A Lehigh County-based organization is stepping in to protect more land in the Poconos.

The Wildlands Conservancy has bought 180 acres in Tobyhanna and Tunkhannock Townships, in Monroe County from the Haase Family.

The Emmaus-based group is adding to its "Maple Tract Preserve."

The conservancy says the addition will help protect the homes of several animals including the Northern Flying Squirrel -- which is a "state endangered" mammal species.

The land will also be open to the public.

The conservancy plans to make trails for hiking and other activities.
