A one-car accident briefly closed a section of Route 209 Friday afternoon in Franklin Township, Carbon County.
The accident occurred at about 1:00 pm.
The car went through a wooden fence enclosing a cattle pasture.
The driver, an unidentified female in her late 60s, was trapped in the car for about 45 minutes, according to police at the scene.
Several fence boards went through the grille and windshield of the car. One board impaled the woman's shoulder
Police said the woman was driving north on 209 just north of Hemlock Road when she went off the right side of the road and struck and went through the fence.
Initial reports from Carbon County Communications were that the woman also received a serious head injury.
The victim was flown to a local hospital.
