Government shutdown forces cancellation of Black Bear Century bike ride
The government shutdown has claimed another victim--this one in the Poconos.
Saturday's scheduled Black Bear Century bike ride has been cancelled, according to organizers.
The ride was available as seven routes with distances of 32, 41, 47, 65, 88 98 and 107 miles.
Since the routes and rest stops were almost all within the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area and High Point State Park, and because these areas are closed until the shutdown is lifted, the likelihood of the bike ride going on as planned is unlikely, according to the organizer's website.
In order for the ride to continue as scheduled, the shutdown would have to be lifted by Wednesday.
