Kathleen Mary Gannecilli of Lansford faces charges for having three small children in her car without safety seats -- and for driving away from the pump at a Mahoning Township gas station without removing the nozzle from her gas tank.
The charges are pending the result of a blood test for drugs or alcohol, reported Mahoning Township police.
At 12:44 p.m. Thursday, Lehighton police received a report of a female driving with small children who were unbuckled inside her car.
A Lehighton police officer observed the vehicle getting gas at the Giant gas station along Route 443 just southwest of the borough.
Before the police officer made contact with Gannecilli, she pulled away from the pumps with the pump nozzle still inserted in her vehicle.
The fuel hose snapped at its safety connection and was dragging along the side of the vehicle.
The police officer immediately stopped the vehicle and found the children -- ages 2, 5 and 7 -- inside with no proper safety seats.
The children were placed into the care of Carbon County Children and Youth.
The fuel pump was out of service for repairs.
