Two Carbon County projects are moving forward with the awarding of nearly $300,000 in grant money.
The bulk of the money -- $250,000 -- will go towards improvements of an historic fountain, sidewalks and crosswalks around Colonel Jacob Weiss Park in Lehighton.
East Side Borough will receive $48,000 for improvements at the East Side Park, including replacing 60-year-old playground equipment.
The money is coming from the Marcellus Shale Legacy Fund, which comes from impact fees on Pennsylvania's natural gas drillers.
Forty percent of the fees collected goes into the legacy fund, and a part of that fund is given out as grants from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA).
The CFA supports conservation and recreation projects across the state.
