An accident in Carbon County has claimed the life of a person on the Pennsylvania Turnpike's northeast extension.
Officials say the accident happened around 4 p.m. Friday in the Southbound lanes around milepost 75.3, just past the Mahoning Valley interchange.
The cyclist -- identified as 65-year-old Thomas Burke of Scranton -- died at the scene of the accident.
Police say a tractor-trailer traveling in the right lane clipped the bike traveling in the left lane, ejecting the rider and sending the bike into the concrete median.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission had people exit the turnpike at the Mahoning Valley exit. They reopened the road around 11:30pm Friday night.
