A Summit Hill man stole $23,677.42 from two developmentally disabled clients in Carbon County.

Donald W. Smale, 40, managed the finances of a 29 year-old client and a 71 year-old client, both of whom were not competent enough to make financial decisions on their own, through a non-profit called NHS.

Smale was an "intellectual developmental disabilities program specialist" for NHS, according to a police report.

Smale was arraigned on theft and forgery charges Friday, May 9. Bail was set at $5,000 by District Magistrate William J. Kissner.

These crimes took place at the private residences of the two victims.

Smale's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, May 21 at 11:30 a.m. before Judge Kissner.
