Christmas tree swiped from fire department
SHOEMAKERSVILLE, Pa. -

Authorities are trying to find the Grinch who stole a Christmas tree from a Berks County fire department.

The tree belonged to the Shoemakersville Volunteer Fire Company; it was swiped from a display along Route 61 on Dec. 7.

Officials tell 69 News the tree was used to promote the department's annual Christmas tree sale.

Lance Adam, of the Shoemakersville Fire Company, said, "My first reaction was that I was surprised that somebody would do that, but after watching recent news media of stolen packages, it doesn't really surprise me."

State police are investigating.

But, the Grinch isn't ruining Christmas for the department.

Firefighters say they still expect to sell about 100 trees this year, which is the most they've sold in six years.

They say a tree will return to the display next year, but it will be chained to a telephone pole.
