Pottsville residents raise money for memorial honoring children killed in fire
Pottsville residents are raising money for a playground memorial to honor four children who were killed in a fire on Mother's Day.
A zumba-thon fundraiser was held today for the Bunker Hill Playground Memorial.
Stones will be inscribed with the victims' names. There are plans for benches and solar lights.
The four children were killed in the May fire, along with their father and an aunt.
Organizers say the playground has special significance.
Organizer Michelle Yarnell said, "The Brown children had a playground up the street from them that they spent a lot of time at, so I felt it would be a great place to remember them at.. plus to redo it and kind of honor them and it's a great way for the community to come together."
Donations to the memorial can be made at the Union Bank and Trust Company of Pottsville.
