6,500 Met-Ed customers were left without power from 5:15 to 7:20 p.m. Wednesday evening after a fire at their substation in Monroe County.
At around 4:30 p.m. fire and smoke was seen coming from a unit that caused a two minute power loss to a couple thousand customers just an hour before.
The fire department requested that Met-Ed shut down the whole substation to safely deal with this fire.
The power restoration process was slowed because the cold weather forced them to give power back in increments, rather than all at once.
Customers in Delaware Water Gap, East Stroudsburg, Hamilton Township, Middle Smithfield Township, Price Township, Smithfield Township, Stroud Township and Stroudsburg.
The cause of the initial incident and ensuing fire are under investigation.
