CHESTNUTHILL TWP., Pa. -

A Pennsylvania State Police trooper is on the mend after being injured during the arrest of a suspect in Monroe County.

Trooper John Urban was attempting to handcuff Andrew Garrison in Chestnuthill Township on Wednesday when Garrison struck the trooper in the face, breaking his nose, state police said.

Garrison, 32, of Effort, was eventually apprehended and taken to a hospital on a mental health warrant, but he then tried to bite another trooper and a security officer as they tried to restrain him, police said.

Garrison was charged with aggravated assault and related offenses and committed to the Monroe County Prison on $250,000 bail.

Urban was treated for his injury and later released from the hospital.
