NESQUEHONING TWP., Pa. -

Crews have rescued a hiker who fell at a popular hiking area in Carbon County.

County communications said they received word of the fallen hiker around 10:20 a.m. Thursday at Glen Onoko Falls in Lehigh Gorge State Park.

The hiker, identified as a 71-year-old man from Harleysville, Montgomery Co., may have suffered head and neck injuries, according to crews on the scene, but they had no information about the extent of his injuries.

A friend of the victim said the man apparently slipped on a root, lost his footing and fell about 10 feet.

A 31-year-old New York woman fell 45 feet to her death in the same area earlier this month.

Emergency crews spent three hours trying to rescue the woman, who fell near the top of a waterfall.
