ALLENTOWN -

Officials in Carbon County say an investigation has been launched into what caused the county's 9-1-1 center to shut down.

Both Carbon County and representatives from Verizon say a network error caused all of the center's phone lines to go down around 8 Saturday night, leaving the county without emergency lines.

The outage lasted just over three hours before the phones became live again.

Verizon officials say they are still looking into the problem.

This is the second time in a year that Carbon County's 9-1-1 phone lines have malfunctioned.

Lines went out in back in August causing Monroe County to cover the void.
