MAHONING TOWNSHIP, Pa. -

A woman was injured when her car struck a tractor-trailer in front of her early Saturday morning at the intersection of Route 443 and Mill Road in Mahoning Township, Carbon County.

Police identified the victim as Kathy Clifford of Andreas, Schuylkill County.

Township police report a New England Motor Freight truck traveling east on Route 443 had stopped for a red signal around 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Normal Square.

Immediately after the light turned green and the truck began to move, Clifford's eastbound 2007 Ford Focus struck the rear of the trailer being towed by the truck.

Clifford was not belted at the time of the crash, according to police. She was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital  in Lehigh County for treatment of injuries.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

Glare from the sun was a contributing factor in the crash, according to police.
