A Schuylkill County school district is debating gun control. Its debate centers on whether teachers and other staff should be armed.
"I don't think it's needed, but I think it would be good to have," Tamaqua Area High School junior Michael Weinert said.
Since the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary, the district has been discussing the idea.
A study is being done, looking into details.
"At this point, without there being a plan, the plan doesn't say anything. It's more going out and trying to find out what exists out there and get recommendations from people who do this on a regular basis," said Assistant Superintendent Ray Kinder.
Parent Ron Robertshaw may not know details but does think guns in schools can save lives.
"If one of the teachers in the other school district had been armed that would have given those kids maybe a fighting chance and wouldn't have been as many as 20 casualties," he said.
Before any plan is put into place, the district is waiting for legislation to come down in Harrisburg that would allow personnel to be armed.
At this point the legislation is just a memo. It states anyone set to be armed in a school must complete appropriate training, similar to city and state cops.
Whatever the training may be, mom Linda Matousek feels teachers should carry books not guns.
"It's a big school inside and teachers are in the classroom teaching. They are supposed to be protecting the students and can't go around the halls going after someone," she said.
The study could be finished by summer.
