One pup is really a lucky dog after its owner stepped in and prevented a bear attack Wednesday night.
The attack happened as Marie Klingel was walking her dog along Great Bear Way in East Stroudsburg, Monroe Co., around 9 p.m., police said. A small black bear came out of the woods and tried to get to the dog, according to reports.
Klingel, 54, of East Stroudsburg, attempted to intervene and was bitten and scratched by the bear; eventually the bear took off back into the woods.
Klingel was taken to Pocono Medical Center, where she was treated for her injuries and later released, officials noted.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission was notified of the sighting and attack, but the bear could not be located by officers.
