Ross Township shooting victim Jerry Kozic laid to rest
Nearly three weeks ago, three people were gunned down in a shooting rampage in Ross Township.
On Saturday, loved ones laid the final victim to rest.
Family and friends remembered Jerry Kozic during funeral services as they continue to seek closure from the tragedy.
53-year-old Jerry Kozic of Saylorsburg and his wife Linda were among those inside the Ross Township Municipal building when shots rang out during the monthly Supervisors meeting Aug. 5.
Jerry Kozic died.
His wife Linda was shot in the leg and was just released from the hospital last week.
Funeral services were put on hold so Linda could attend.
Today, friends and family members gathered to say goodbye to a man described as passionate about his music, compassionate toward his friends and devoted to his family.
"It's a real tragedy what's happened here," said Steve Braunstein, Jerry Kozic's friend for decades.
While attending Kozic's funeral Saturday in Brodheadsville, Braunstein reminisced about their days together in the music industry.
"Brilliant. He was a genius bona fide genius," said Braunstein. "He's one of the best musicians I've ever known."
As a professional musician, Kozic played throughout the Poconos and around the world.
In June 2004, he performed for President George Bush at the White House.
As a young boy, he was a charter member of the Singing Boys of Pennsylvania.
Bernard Schade is the director. His musical group was asked to sing at Kozic's funeral. Schade remembers Kozic as jovial in nature, but always serious about his music.
Jerry and his wife Linda had been married for 16 years.
Linda's cousin says Kozic was not only passionate about his music, but also a devoted family man.
Linda Pajor said, "They were a perfect duo off stage and on. His legacy will live on. She vowed to not let his death be in vain."
A website has been set up to help Linda Kozic with her mounting medical expenses.
The alleged shooter, 59-year-old Rockne Newell is facing criminal homicide charges in connection with the shooting in Monroe County.
