Suspect arrested for theft of PennDOT dump truck
A suspect has been arrested for the theft of a PennDOT dump truck that was stolen by crashing through a gate of a parking area in the Poconos last weekend.
Nineteen-year-old Thomas McCue was arraigned from prison Thursday, reported Pocono Mountain Regional Police. He was charged with three felonies: theft by lawful taking, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief. Bail was set at $10,000.
McCue had been arrested on unrelated charges Monday in Edwardsville, Luzerne County, and is in Luzerne County Prison.
The truck was stolen Saturday night or early Sunday from the yard of the PennDOT stockpile shed facility along Route 423 in Coolbaugh Township, Monroe County.
The truck was seen heading toward Pocono Pines on Route 423 that night and later was spotted in Hunlock, Luzerne County.
The gate it was driven through was extensively damaged.
The suspect apparently arrived at the PennDOT facility in a Pontiac Sunfire that had been stolen from Larksville, Luzerne County.
PennDOT has recovered the truck and is assessing its damange.
