Route 22 East Reopens Following Tractor Trailer Crash

UPPER MACUNGIE TWP., Pa. -

The eastbound lanes of Route 22 at Interstate 78 in Lehigh County were closed for about four hours following a crash involving an overturned tractor trailer Wednesday afternoon.

The accident happened shortly after noon, closing the eastbound lanes between I-78 and Tilghman Street in Upper Macungie Township.

The accident involved a ShopRite tractor trailer.

The New Jersey-based grocery store chain operates a one million square foot distribution center not far from the scene, near Route 100 and Schantz Road. It's used to supply stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.

Emergency dispatchers said no one was hurt in the accident. Police have not yet said how it happened.
