Seafood Shanty reborn with grand opening of new restaurant
Seafood Shanty fans can once again get their fill in Berks County.
The new Seafood Shanty was christened in the Broadcasting Square shopping center in Spring Township Tuesday morning.
The once-popular restaurant closed 18 years ago because of tax problems, but a longtime customer revived the chain for other fans.
"Literally, I had a lady crying saying that it brought back such memories of the clam chowder and key lime pie and all those items we have -- the marinara sauce, the crab cakes," said Eddie Riegel, president and CEO of Seafood Shanty. "People have been really supportive."
If things go well in Berks, the owner said more restaurants could open near Allentown, Exton and Philadelphia.
