Shippensburg offers birth control pills in vending machine

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -

The FDA is getting involved in the availability of a 'morning after' pill at a college in south central Pennsylvania.

The FDA has contacted Shippensburg University after the school made "Plan B" available in a vending machine.

The machine is in the school's health building and access to it is restricted.

"Plan B" is available to women age 17 and older without a prescription but it must be kept behind a pharmacy counter.

The school installed the machine after a request from the school's student association.

A student survey found that 85 percent of respondents supported the move.

The cost of "Plan B" is $25.  It is not covered or subsidized by Shippensburg.
