St. Luke's, Warren Hospital formalize deal

Warren Hospital in New Jersey is no more.

The hospital now has a new name, a new look and hopefully, a rosier financial future.

A partnership with St. Luke's Health Network is official.

The sign on the outside has changed but it's what's will soon be on the inside of the new St. Luke's Health Network Warren campus that will have the community clapping.

"The people in Phillipsburg will now have access to services that they wouldn't have had access to because they were a smaller institution," said St. Luke's Health Network President and CEO Richard Anderson.

The partnership means there are going to be some big changes on the Warren campus.

First on the list is a new intensive care unit.

"That will be a unit that is approximately twice the size of the current unit and we are also in the feasibility planning stage for bringing back maternity and OB services to this community," said St. Luke's Warren Hospital President Thomas Litz.

The Warren facility is the sixth campus for St. Luke's, bringing its employee count to roughly 8,000.

St. Luke's officials say over the next year they will focus on stabilizing the Warren facility financially.

Officials say they will also examine the needs of the community to develop a strategic plan to incorporate more services.

"We are going to be able to, I guess you could say, import varoius specialties here to Phillipsburg and then those specialties that they can't have here will benefit because we'll be able to bring those patients over to us in Bethlehem or on the newest campus on 33 and 78," said Anderson.

While the partnership means patients have access to the entire network's services, Litz said it will also keep many patients closer to home.
