Streets are closed throughout the region

Many, many streets are closed or blocked by debris left behind by Hurricane Sandy. Officials encourage everyone to stay home and stay inside until crews can remove debris.

Officials remind drivers to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary to allow crews to do their jobs clearing the downed trees and branches.

And remember: any intersection where the traffic light isn't working should be treated as a four-way stop.

NORTHAMPTON COUNTY

The City of Bethlehem has rescinded its recommended evacuation order issued Monday for flood-prone areas.

According to Mayor John Callahan, the forecasted rain never materialized and neither the Saucon Creek or Monocacy Creek flooded.

Bethlehem City Hall is operating on back power. As of 10 a.m. Tuesday, 54 intersections in the city are wtihout power. Officials  have taken steps to restore power at critical intersections with generators and have placed temporary stop signs at others.

In Easton, the following streets are closed:

500 Blk of Northampton St.

Washington St between S. 5th St. and S. Union St.

S. Delaware Dr. between 3rd St. and the City line

N. Delaware Dr. between Bushkill St and the City line

St. Joseph St between Folk and Charles St.

300 Blk of Folk St.

W. Kleinhans St. between Folk and St. John St.

Williams St. between Philadelphia Rd. and Seitz St.

300 Blk of Wirebach St.

9th & Jackson St.

N. 9th St. between Spring Garden St. and Wood Ave.

N 14th St. between Northampton and Liberty St.

Lafayette St. between Coleman and Hamilton St.

McCartney St. between Pierce and Burke St.

Pierce St between Reeder and Brodhead St.

Burke St. between Reeder and Brodhead St.

Taylor Ave. between Park and Mixsell St.

College Ave. between McCartney St. and College Ave.

According to the City of Allentown, the following intersections and streets are closed within the city due to Hurricane Sandy:

N. 19th Street from Woodlawn St to Pennsylvania St

Mosser Street from S. 23rd St to S. 24th St

Walnut Street from S. 25th St to S. 26th St

N. 24th Street from Livingston St to Greenleaf St

St John Street from S. 8th St to S. Lumber St

N. Jerome Street (North Bound Lane Only) from E Turner St to E Linden St

Springhouse Rd at Broadway...Access to Springhouse Rd is from Tilghman Street only

E. Gordon St from Halstead St to Irving St

E. Linden Street from N Jerome St to the Dead End at N Maxwell St

In Upper Saucon Township, the following roads are closed due to downed trees and wires:

--Blue Church Road South between Susan Road and State Street

--Chestnut Hill Road between Glen Road and Beverly Hills Road

--Oakhurst Drive between Stonesthrow Road and Old Bethlehem Pike

--Honeysuckle Road between Stonesthrow Road and E. Rock Road

--Church Road between Stonesthrow Road and Black River Road

--Spring Valley Road between Old Bethlehem Pike and Washington Lane

--Old Bethlehem Pike between Spring Valley Road and Landis Mill Road

--Vera Cruz Road at Kozy Korner Road

There are also many intersections in Upper Saucon Twp. without working signals. Please treat these intersections as 4-way stops until power is restored. They include:

Hackettstown Road Closures as of 11 a.m. 11/5/12

-College View Dr between Carter Terrace and Pleasant View Rd and Carter Terrace between Pleasant View Rd and Ferris Place are closed due to a leaning telephone pole with the potential of electrical wires coming down.

- West Plane St is closed between Jefferson St and First Ave due to a leaning telephone pole. (Parents needing to go to Hatchery Hill School must use Fifth Ave off of Grand Ave and leaving Hatchery Hill School you cannot make a right hand turn.)

- West Plane St is closed between Jefferson St and Monroe St due to downed trees and downed telephone poles.

- There are still low hanging wires in the streets throughout town.
