A 'fantastic' new exhibit is debuting at the Allentown Art Museum this weekend. It's called "At the Edge, Art of the Fantastic."
It features more than 150 historical and contemporary pieces that represent the genre of imaginative realism. The museum says it's the largest and most comprehensive exhibition of its kind.
Hopes are that the exhibit takes you beyond the normal realm. Brooks Joyner, director of the Allentown Art Museum, said, "The subjects and the stories and topics, are all something that propel you into another world, a parallel universe, if you will."
The Guest Curator, Patrick Wilshire, said, "I think if they come see the show, they'll gain a new appreciation for the genre and for this approach. Particularly, I think they'll be struck by the opportunity to see this work in person rather than seeing it reproduced on a book or magazine cover."
There's a preview party Saturday, June 2 from 6:00 to 8:00pm, and the exhibit opens to the public on Sunday, June 3.
