What's new for Musikfest's 30th year?
Bethlehem festival runs through August 11
One of the most anticipated annual events in the Lehigh Valley gets underway Friday.
The 30th year of Musikfest starts Friday afternoon in Bethlehem.
The venues open at 5 p.m. and the festival will run for the next 10 days.
Nearly a million visitors will have a chance to visit all of the different venues and "platzes."
The festival has gotten bigger and better every year, says Mark Demko, spokesperson for ArtsQuest.
"When we began, it started with about 150,000 people and six stages. Today we have 14 stages and 900,000 people coming. Over 340 artists are going to be coming from not only around the region, but around the world," he explained.
New this year is the addition of a food truck as one of the more than 60 food vendors. The Cow and the Curd will be serving fried cheese curds with specialty dipping sauces.
Musikfest is expanding the number of street performers this year as well. They'll perform both on the north and south sides of the festival.
Also, a handful of volunteers is celebrating 30 years of volunteering. Many say they do it because it's fun!
