Tournament In Memory Of Scout Who Died

They plan to give them to those in need, while using soccer to carry out the legacy of their son.
Ian Miller, 12, had a lot to smile about. He loved soccer and had already been accepted into an Olympic development program.
"He started playing it, said Ron Miller. "I coached him through his first few years of intramural soccer and he picked it up loved it, and pretty good at it."
In memory of Ian, the Coventry Soccer Association will sponsor the first Ian Miller Celebration Tournament.

"It gives us a chance to, I guess, to keep him forefront in our minds, which wouldn't be hard to do." said Miller. "But in other people's mind. And have his legacy live on."
Ian lost his life in January in a sledding accident while on a trip with his Boy Scout troop.
In his boot, the coroner found a bible scripture from the book of James, Chapter 1, verses 2 through 4, which talked about perseverance.
Now Ian's family is persevering to give shoes and boots to the needy.
"There are people who need shoes and boots," said Holly Wastler-Miller. "And so that's why we decided to start that charity in Ian's name."
"And we'll also go to and manufacturers and retailers and request new boots and we'll insert Ian's bible verse and a little story about Ian in each boot," said Miller.
The Ian Miller Celebration Tournament starts Friday at the Owen J. Roberts High School. Forty-five teams are expected to compete.
During the tournament, used shoes and boots, as well as sporting equipment, will be collected for the needy.
"Frankly, we believe that God was telling us that there was more to this story and to this tragedy than simply losing our son," said Wastler-Miller.
