A son of Jim Thorpe is suing the Poconos town that bears his father's name.

The lawsuit is over the remains of the Native American often called the 20th Century's greatest athlete.

Jack Thorpe of Shawnee, Oklahoma, filed the lawsuit today under a federal law designed to return Native American artifacts to their tribal homelands.

His father, a member of the Sac and Fox tribe, won the decathlon and pentathlon in the 1912 Olympics.

He also played professional football and baseball.

The town of Mauch Chunk in Carbon County made an odd 1950s deal with his third wife, renaming the town Jim Thorpe to attract tourists and building a monument where he is buried.
