Unusual Traditional Parade Serenades Hundreds
Published On: Aug 04 2011 07:44:39 AM EDT Updated On: Jul 04 2011 05:43:21 AM EDTIt started off as an attempt to break a Guinness book of world record.
Now, the annual kazoo parade in Nazareth is an event people say they must go to each year.
Everyone loves a parade, and when you add in a kazoo, you have a special event.
"It's unique, and the kazoo was selected because it's a musical instrument that everybody can play." said Tina Smith, President of the Nazareth Area Chamber of Commerce.
"Kazoos bring so much joy to people's lives and they're just a happy instrument." added Abbe Graber, a blues singer and Kazooist that sang the national anthem at the event.
Close to 500 people played patriotic classics as they made their way to Memorial Square.
Once they arrived they heard from veterans who have fought to help protect this nation.
"Whether you're here at home with you family and friends or overseas we realize it's such an important holiday and it means so much." said Colonel Jim Follweiler, a member of the US Army Reserve.
"Independence day really is a day where we celebrate these two great title deeds of humanity." said U.S. Representative Charlie Dent, a republican from Pennsylvania's 15th district. "The declaration of Independence and the Constitution. We celebrate them, and these two documents are what make America exceptional."
So these people will continue to celebrate.
"We're all proud to be US citizens and proud to be part of this country and this is just our little hometown way here in Nazareth." said Smith.
And they will keep their kazoos humming for years to come.
