Upscale Restaurant Preparing To Open
Published On: Aug 25 2011 03:11:27 PM EDT Updated On: Jul 16 2010 10:33:35 AM EDTIt is an eyesore no more. A run-down building is being re-made into something entirely new.
An upscale restaurant called the Cosmopolitan is preparing to open in the former home of Sal's Spaghetti House in Allentown.
The exterior of the Cosmopolitan was designed to fit into the city's old world architecture..
But walk through its door and you will see something unique taking shape.
The feeling is like walking into a luxury hotel, said Kevin Lynn, general manager. You walk in here, even in the middle of the afternoon, and can't remember if you're in London or Manhattan or Los Angeles or Tokyo.
The $5-million project consists of four floors.
On the first will be fine dining and a bar.
Live jazz music will waft its way up to the second floor.
Perhaps the crown jewel of the Cosmopolitan is an old favorite.
A Hess's chandelier hangs from the second floor to the first.
Lynn said every detail has been carefully chosen, from the marble tile in bathrooms to the medallions and the tapestry in the third floor ballroom.
The menu will be seasonally driven with a European background, crafted by celebrity chef Bryan Sikora.
I like to make things familiar to people and then surprise with things that aren't on the menu necessarily, said Sikora.
You can enjoy items from that menu on the two-tier rooftop fourth floor, complete with 40 mile views.
Owner Myron Haydt said the Cosmopolitan was built out of love for the city.
It was just a way to kind of jump start the community and see what we could to keep its continued growth and put Allentown back into the splendor it used to have.
The Cosmopolitan is expected to open by the first week of September and will employ around 60 people.
