WILLIAMS TWP., Pa. -

A Northampton County community says it's considering raising taxes because of one of its biggest tenants.

Williams Township Supervisor George Washburn says the Chrin Landfill has taken in 12,000-13,000 less tons of garbage and sludge than in previous years.

That means the township is seeing $30,000-$40,000 less revenue so township officials are considering raising the Local Services Tax from $10 to $52.

The tax applies to people working in Williams Township.

Chrin says it's striving to generate maximum revenue even though it's not accepting sludge anymore in deference to local concerns.

Chrin also says its revenue critics are the same people who have tried to hurt the landfill by challenging it in court.
