An 18-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection with the shooting death of another young man and the wounding of the victim's mother.
Uriah O'Carroll was charged with criminal homicide, attempted homicide and aggravated assault for allegedly killing Marcus Eggleston and wounding Eggleston's mother, Sandy Falwell.
Police responded to the 100 block of North College Street in Allentown around 11:30 Tuesday for a report of a shooting.
"Boom, boom, boom, boom," said Dan Velazquez, 19, in describing the gunshots he heard.
When the first officers arrived on the scene, they said they found Eggleston, 20, with a gunshot wound to the chest. Falwell, 42, had been shot in the head.
Eggleston was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later. Falwell is expected to recover
"I really don't understand how, in the house one minute, and then the next minute shooting each other, whatever going on," said John Alvarado, a neighbor and father of an 11-year-old child.
O'Carroll and Eggleston got into some sort of argument earlier Tuesday evening, according to court documents. O'Carroll left, but later returned and was confronted by Eggleston again. That's when, according to police, O'Carroll shot Eggleston.
"He was cool. We always hung out together. We played games, went places. He went with my family to places," said Amethyst Howard, who set up a small memorial for Eggleston.
Falwell told police she was shot when she went to help her son. Falwell also told police that O'Carroll then started shooting at the house where four other people were taking cover.
"A lot of people not from around here," said Alvarado. "There is lot of gang members coming around. It's not a good area."
Police arrested O'Carroll early Wednesday morning at his mother's home on West Chew Street in Allentown. He is being held in the Lehigh County Prison without bail.
?Police acted promptly to conduct numerous interviews in the case and had the suspect in custody within eight hours of the shooting,? said District Attorney James Martin. ?Allentown police detectives and detectives with the Homicide Task Force are to be commended for their swift action in the third homicide in Allentown this year.?
Police have not said if the shooting was gang-related or what prompted the initial argument between Eggleston and O'Carrroll. View Larger Map
