New toys should be donated at city fire stations

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - For the first time, the Allentown Fire Department is participating in the U.S. Marine Corps' annual Toys for Tots campaign.

New toys still in their original packaging can be donated at all five city fire stations to help needy kids have a merrier Christmas.

Toys will be accepted until 10 a.m. Dec. 20 at the stations.

They are:

* Central at  W. Chew and N. Hall streets.

* Fearless at  W. Susquehanna and S. Second streets.

* Hibernia at Tilghman Street and Ridge Avenue.

* Mack South at Lehigh and Vultee streets

* West End at N. 22nd and Turner streets.

Two city firefighters recommended the fire department join the Toys for Tots campaign and Fire Chief Robert Scheirer agree with their suggestion, explained city fire department spokesman John Christopher.

Those firefighters were Chad Ege, who served in the Marines, and Keith Pierce, who is a lieutenant colonel in the Marine Reserves.
