Authorities said an argument during a drug deal led to the shooting

Kawan Morrison guilty plea

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - An Allentown man accused in a fatal shooting during a 2013 drug deal has pleaded guilty.

Kawan A. Morrison pleaded guilty Monday to third-degree murder before Lehigh County Judge James T. Anthony. As part of the plea deal, the 27-year-old will serve as least 12 years in state prison.

The deal calls for a sentence of between 12 and 24 years, which Anthony will determine when Morrison is sentenced on Dec. 12.

Authorities filed charges against Morrison in March 2015, alleging he shot and killed Ian Juma in the 700 block of Eighth Avenue in Bethlehem in June 2013.

Lehigh County District Attorney James Martin said, when charges were filed, that Morrison was a Bloods gang member and that he had gotten into an argument with Juma. Investigators at the time characterized Juma as a small-time street dealer.

Investigators pulled DNA from a cigarette butt to at the crime scene to link Morrison to the murder. He had initially been charged with an open count of criminal homicide.
