READING, Pa. - The Alvernia men's basketball team clinched the top seed in the MAC Commonwealth Conference Championships with a 70-59 win over Hood on Tuesday night on Jack McCloskey Court.
The Crusaders saw a balanced attack with four scorers in double digits. Charles Cooper paced Alvernia with 16 points. Kahlil Bennett dropped 12, Chris Davis recorded 11 and Brian Parker had 10.
Alvernia will host the winner of the 4/5 game on Wednesday, February 20 in a semifinal at 7:00.
The Alvernia women were eliminated from playoff contention coming into their game with Hood, but that didn't stop the Crusaders from pulling out an overtime win, 79-75, on Tuesday night.
Playing in her final home game, Kayla Long made the most of it, scoring a career-high 22 points. She also tied a school record with 24 rebounds.
Long got help from Chelsea Ebersole's 16 points, Brittany Young's 14 and Kaitlyn Yoh's 13.
The lady Crusaders will wrap up their season Saturday at Messiah.
