A New York man is facing homicide charges after forgetting about his infant son and leaving him in a hot car, where the baby died.

Devon A. Fenner, 25, called 911 on Tuesday afternoon, telling dispatchers he forgot to take his 7-month-old son Dominick out of the car when he parked it at his home in Hempstead about a half-hour earlier and that the child was not breathing, New York TV station WPIX reported.

The baby was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Fenner has been charged with criminally negligent homicide and is due back in court next week.

According to the New York Post, temperatures in the car reached at least 119 degrees in the short period of time Dominick was left in the vehicle.
