Berks Historian Steps Down From Post

READING, Pa. - The longtime leader of the Berks Historical Society is retiring.

Local historian George Meiser the ninth is stepping down after his 12-year tenure as the society's president.

Meiser is known primarily for his work with "The Passing Scene," which is an extensive photographic history of Berks. He said he is retiring so that he can spend more time working on the series with his wife, Gloria.

"I love doing research and I love restoring old photographs," said Meiser. "This new book coming out has 366 restored photographs. That's an enormous amount of work, but I love doing it."

Meiser is being replaced by Beulah Fehr, the society's first female president.
