Woman killed, man seriously hurt in crash on Route 222

MAIDENCREEK TWP., Pa. - A woman was killed and a man was seriously injured in a crash that involved two tractor trailers and three other vehicles on Route 222, officials said.

The accident happened around 6:35 a.m. Monday at Route 222 near Pleasant Hill Road in Maidencreek Twp., Berks Co.

A southbound tractor trailer struck the rear of a pickup truck, which hit the back of an SUV. The SUV then rear-ended another tractor trailer, which struck the back of a car, the coroner said.

The driver of the SUV, Lauren Boyer, died at the scene; a man driving the pickup truck was flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown, officials said.

An autopsy on Boyer, 45, of Richmond Township, is scheduled for Tuesday, said the coroner, who is withholding a ruling on her death pending the outcome.

Route 222, between Route 73 in Maidencreek Township and Route 662 in Richmond Township, was closed in both directions until approximately 2 p.m.
