21st annual Great American Cleanup set for Saturday

READING, Pa. - Ready... set... clean!

An army of volunteers will take to the streets and sidewalks of Reading on Saturday for the 21st annual Great American Cleanup.

The event will start at 8 a.m. at Riverfront Park, near the campus of Reading Area Community College, with the registration of volunteers and distribution of supplies.

The event typically involves more than 1,000 volunteers from around the Greater Reading area.

"Every year, it's great to see all the volunteers come together and participate in the Great American Cleanup. It's a great event that brings the overall community together to make a positive impact on the appearance, safety and well being of our community," said Mayor Vaughn Spencer, D-Reading.

"The Great American Cleanup brings people together to transform public places into beautiful spaces," said Jennifer M. Jehn, president and CEO of Keep America Beautiful.

The volunteers are invited to return to Riverfront Park beginning at 11 a.m. for a post-event celebration that will include music and refreshments.

The Great American Cleanup is supported in communities across the country by Washington, D.C.-based Keep America Beautiful Inc.
